More of a nice-to-have for future: I would like to see Travel & Rest expanded to include “random events,” so that when resting/traveling, for example, a standard table or a d20 or d100 table defined during world creation is rolled, and the AI then has to play out the event.
Example of an improvised travel table:
1 - You encounter a peddler.
2 - An ambush. Roll initiative.
3 - You hear a strange noise. Roll perception.
4 - A companion tells a childhood story
5 - It's raining cats and dogs. Roll constitution or get a cold
6 - Two companions start a banter about who’s better at something
7 - You spot a rare bird
8 - A companion starts a song
9 - A noble needs help with their horse
10 - you hear fighting noises in the distance. Roll perception to determine its source
11 - a companion tells a joke
12 - you discover a rare berry bush
13 - a companion tells a sad story about a dead friend
14 - a small animal approaches and wants some of your food
15 - a npc recognizes your party and wants to shake your hands
16 - muddy ground. Roll dexterity or soil your boots
...
This is just an improvisation to explain the principle. There are much better and more detailed lists to be found on the internet.
The advantage of such tables is that world builders can make their worlds and characters more vivid with relatively little effort, and the game becomes more dynamic because simple impulses are triggered and sent to the AI, which then has to implement them specifically. This forces the AI to be less passive in waiting for player input and reacting to it, and instead allows it to surprise the player.
It would be important to be able to turn these events on and off (e.g. to avoid annoyance during questing). It might even be possible to develop these tables together with other players via the workshop or to share them.
Other nice-to-have features:
- A small video animation plays when resting/traveling (e.g., as in older rpg such as Baldur's Gate 2).
- resting refills spell slots and health
- every longer journey / rest requires and consumes rations or causes exhaustion
- time proceeds (day/night changes)
- your path is highlighted on the world map
